Brightest day...

I find myself striving to concentrate on the happiest of times more and more these days. While I'm not always successful, I find that the effort it takes to try to look on the bright side no matter what is happening will always lead to some positive results.

So take a moment, smile, and reflect on your Top 5 moments of 2011 thus far. These can be huge milestones or simple moments; just make sure you take some time to re-live the bright spots :)

  1. It's honestly been a miserable, depression-riddled winter, but here goes:

    1. Watching Sunday nights morph into something epic and always exciting, instead of fading into obscurity.

    2. Going into NEW MUSIC ocd, listening to 50+ new artists over a couple months.

    3. Getting the leaves out of the yard. The ones I raked into piles the day before it snowed last fall.

    4. Hardly drinking at all.

    5. Getting lost in movies (Black Narcissus ftw).

  2. I love you buddy. Plus, nice title.

    1. Seeing Bright Eyes at The State Theater. There is something wonderful about seeing one of your favorite bands for the first time. Especially if it might be one of the last times they preform under that moniker.

    2. Seeing Flogging Molly. Also at The State. More Specifically the ride home afterwards with Colin, Gwyn and Bryant. Singing Along (very loudly) to an awesome mix.

    3. Along with Eyestone. Having every sunday night be a reminder that life is wonderful and that having great friends is one the best things a human being can accomplish in their lives.

    4. Going kinda silly over a girl for the first time in quite a while. Even though it sucks and rips out your guys a little. It's nice to be reminded that even though you're a maladjusted indoor kid who can't connect with women, it's who you are and someday someone will love you for it.

    5. Being forced to think about the future when you weren't expecting to. Turning a crushing blow into a chance to do something different or at least to think about things differently.

  3. *rips out your guts a little.
Although that typo is kinda perfect if you think about it. :)

  4. 1. Tim Barry/Jenny Owen Youngs show. I didn't know much about Tim Barry before this show, we really just went to see J.O.Y. However, Tim Barry might just be the least pretentious musical act I've ever seen. The dude kicked so much ass and he really challenges his audience. Guy makes you think while kicking your teeth in. Friggin' awesome.

    2. Getting selected to the Noyce scholars program. Can't beat making money doing what you're passionate about.

    3. Yesterday (April 29th). For various reasons but mainly just taking a day off work to spend galavanting around Raleigh with Meg. Days like this remind of how lucky I am.

    4. Each of the days Colin was in Raleigh. I tried to pick one day that was totally better than the rest, but I couldn't. So I'm going to cheat and collapse the entire week into one of my selections because, seriously, that whole week owned so hard.

    5. Today. Just because.

  5. 1. Packers win Superbowl XLV... the culmination of years waiting and watching with my friends. It was a great experience that I had the privilege of sharing with some awesome people.

    2. My trip to Raleigh. I'll follow Bill's lead and say that I can't pick a favorite day. The Durham game, the night playing ninja in the living room, it was all solid gold.

    3. Sucker Punch. Not the greatest movie by any stretch of the imagination, but a fantastic day with my roomie and Anthony. Guys' day out!

    4. Flogging Molly. Had a girlfriend for a bit, hung with my sister and friends, and got blitzed on Guiness watching one of my favorite bands.

    5. The day Brie and I picked Omar. Seems corny, but I couldn't be happier things worked out the way they did. He's perfect for me.

2010 sucked, so I look forward to seeing what else this year could hold :)
