Top 5: Songs to Share

Hello internets!

I am currently enthralled with Spotify. If you aren't jive to the hip I'm spilling, Spotify is a program you download to your desktop that let's you stream as much music as you want for free (for now; the free model will be limited to 10 hrs/mo or so in 6 months, but for now, it's unlimited). If you don't have Spotify you have to sign up for an invite from their site and from what I've seen so far it doesn't take long to get in.

Now, it doesn't have EVERYTHING that's been made ever, but it has a TON of music, including most of the stuff I've searched for. Now, the reason I say all of this is because I'm ready to branch out and try some new music. So what I'm thinking is we all share our Top 5 songs we love and want others to hear (Ian's dream list, besides Top 5 TV shows to make other people watch, but force them to watch specific episodes with him). Once a list is posted, I will make an effort to listen to everyone's suggestions at least 3-4 times and try to expand my horizons; ya'll may want to join me in listening to others' tracks if you have the means.

All your music is belong to me!

  3. Finally posting to this awesome list!

    1. Tigers Jaw - Between Your Band and the Other Band.
Eyestone got me into these guys really hard. Saw them with him at The Kave last month. Wonderful, if you give them a chance I think you will fucking love them. I like to think of them as Mark music that is too good for Mark to like it. I hope you get what I mean when you listen. This is one of my favorite songs on the self-titled album but the whole thing is amazing.

    2. Cloud Cult - Room Full of People in Your Head.
It's baffling to me that for some reason only Colin Bacon, Gwyn Esty-Kendall, Cory Deshane and Myself understand that this is one of the greatest bands in the universe. Sure the words and message might be a little la-de-da for a lot of people but the music, THE MUSIC!

    3. The Decemberists - When U Love Somebody.
Most people reading this are already Decemberists fans but this one may have slipped by. It's from their recent iTunes Session digital ep and it's a cover of this amazing song by The Fruit Bats (which is one of the things I would have never heard if it wasn't for Daniel Schwartz). Anyway, It rules.

    4. The Rural Alberta Advantage - Stamp
Another unbelievable band liked only by Me, Gwyn and Dan at the moment. Their First album was fantastic but this song is off their second album Departing, which is absolutely in my top 5 of 2011 and very high on that list to boot.k

    5. mewithoutYou - Messes of Men.
I've attempted to get some of you to like these guys of quite a while. The fact that they are somewhat religious (not christian) might get in the way but their music is in no way evangelical. It contains a good amount of personal observations about god and faith but the music, voice and lyrics are SO GOOD. listen to it.

  4. Just realized that 2 of these are not actual on spotify it's just that I have them and I didn't understand how it all works, as per usual. The worst thing about this is that the Tigers Jaw song was the most important thing on this list! I need you to hear it so here's a youtube link!
